Component Three: Student Challenge

Students take action to green one area of your school, home or community. The Green Bricks team invites you to participate in the BC Green Games and have a chance to win a share of the $22,000 in prizes! The Green Bricks team will provide ongoing support to ensure success with your sustainability initiative!

To participate in the BC Green Games, student teams submitted their projects by February 26, 2010. Check out the winning projects for 2010!

Here are some amazing projects Green Brick students have accomplished!

• installed sensors in the urinals to reduce the water consumption;
• organized BC Hydro to update the lighting in the school gymnasium;
• eliminated the use of disposable plates and cutlery in the cafeteria (or ask students to bring their own cutlery!);
• organized a school-wide lights off day;
• managed a bike/walk/bus to school week;
• limited the idling cars in the parking lot; and
• started a compost program in the cafeteria.
